1 | Accurately measure the height of a tree | High |
2 | Easy to use | High |
3 | Low cost | Medium |

This should be done for less than $50. This will not include the 10-100 hours of labour which will be required.
The parts will be sources through eBay, unless order quantities become significant enough to warrant lower lead times and lower average costs.
The device must measure the height of trees correctly in outdoor conditions including bright sunlight and light rain. It should be of store bought quality or better.
If possible, already owned materials will be used. Waste will disposed of in an environmentally sustainable way.

I am the only resource involved in this project. I only have to make sure that I have the required skills.
Daily progress will be important for the success of this project. It needs to be completed in time to allow trees to survive this coming summer in 2018-01-01.
